The Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), FCT Chapter, has initiated a seven-day warning strike, commencing on Monday, September 8, 2025, citing what it terms the “chronic breakdown” of the healthcare system in the capital.

In a statement signed by ARD President, Dr. George Ebong, and other executives, the doctors lamented dire working conditions and severe staff shortages, saying they are often forced to cover multiple departments at once.

“It’s unbearable. We’re covering too many roles, and it’s hurting patient care,” the statement read.

The doctors stressed that the action is not just about their welfare but a call to rescue the FCT’s healthcare sector from collapse. Their demands include immediate recruitment of more staff, improved pay, and urgent rehabilitation of dilapidated facilities.

They warned that failure to address these issues could escalate the warning strike into a full-scale industrial action.
