The Federal Government has declared September 5, 2025, a public holiday to observe Eid-ul-Mawlid, celebrating the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW). This was announced in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja by Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the Ministry of Interior’s Permanent Secretary.

Representing the government, Interior Minister Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo extended warm felicitations to Muslims in Nigeria and worldwide. He encouraged the Muslim community to embody the Prophet’s principles of peace, compassion, humility, tolerance, and kindness, emphasizing their role in building a cohesive and forward-looking nation.

Tunji-Ojo called on Nigerians of all beliefs to seize this moment to pray for peace, security, and stability, while endorsing government efforts to foster unity and sustainable progress. “The Eid-ul-Mawlid celebration offers a chance to deepen bonds of brotherhood, promote harmony, and adopt the Prophet’s values of respect and selfless dedication,” the statement noted.

He further urged citizens to uphold the law, stay vigilant, and support policies aimed at improving national welfare, while wishing Muslims a serene and joyful celebration.
