The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) razed Boulevard Park in Maitama, Abuja, due to flagrant breaches of park rules and deviations from the Abuja Master Plan. Mukhtar Galadima, Director of Development Control, explained that the park, meant for leisure activities, had been unlawfully repurposed into places of worship, event spaces, and eateries, many operating in unsanitary conditions.

Galadima highlighted that the park had become a hideout for suspicious individuals, creating security and environmental hazards for nearby communities. He affirmed that proper procedures were followed, with warnings issued and occupants given sufficient time to leave. Some people were discovered living on the premises, in clear violation of regulations.

The permit previously issued to the park’s operators has been canceled, and the FCTA plans to reassign and redesign parks across the city to align with their recreational purpose. Galadima noted that the FCTA may seek to recover demolition costs under urban and regional planning regulations. He cautioned developers and residents to strictly follow land use guidelines, stressing that the FCTA will uphold security and environmental standards in the capital without compromise.
