On September 1, 2025, FCT Minister Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike justified the demolition of illegal shanties in Abuja, citing enhanced security and urban order. Speaking at a media briefing, he dismissed claims that the demolitions target the poor, noting that shanties harbor criminals like “one-chance” robbers. Wike stressed that poverty does not justify crime and vowed to clear all illegal structures.

He outlined new FCT projects, including sports facilities in Gwagwalada and Gwarimpa, a road in Karu, and a Magistrate Court in Jabi, aimed at youth development and infrastructure growth. Wike urged resident doctors to engage constructively amid resource constraints, with the FCT’s N12 billion monthly wage bill straining funds. He also called for increased tax compliance to boost revenue.

On Rivers State’s recent elections, Wike refuted voter apathy claims, defending the polls as fair and lawful. He dismissed opposition criticisms, praised the PDP’s win in his local government, and reiterated support for President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election.

Wike mourned the passing of Mrs. Grace Adayilo, FCTA Civil Service Head, extending condolences and noting her historic role and recent tenure extension.
