The Speaker of the Abuja Municipal Area Council, Matthew Yare, has been impeached.
The development, which took place early Monday, saw Ibrahim Jankaro elected as the new Speaker by eight councillors from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The APC gained numerical strength after the council’s Executive Chairman, Christopher Maikalangu, defected from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC, giving the party control of eight out of twelve wards.
This advantage enabled the councillors to outvote their PDP counterparts and replace Yare.
