Former Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Solomon Arase, has died at the age of 69 at Cedarcrest Hospital in Abuja.
Arase, who served as Nigeria’s 18th IGP from April 2015 to June 2016, was later appointed Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC) in 2023 by ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, a position he lost in June 2024 under President Bola Tinubu.
A respected intelligence officer, he once headed the Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Bureau, served as Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom, and was Assistant Inspector-General in charge of intelligence. He also took part in a UN peacekeeping mission in Namibia.
No official statement has yet been released by his family or the Police Force, but tributes are expected from government officials and security stakeholders.
