Town planners have urged a new approach to regional development in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), calling for inclusive and sustainable strategies in Abuja’s satellite towns.
The appeal was made during the 2025 Town Planners Day celebration, organized by the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP), FCT Chapter, in Abuja.
Chairman of the chapter, Tpl. Queen I. Phillips said the Abuja Master Plan originally envisioned balanced growth, where satellite towns would complement the Federal Capital City. She stressed the need to review current strategies to achieve sustainable development.
The event, themed “Regional Development in the FCT: Rethinking Public Sector-led Development of Abuja Satellite Towns,” brought together stakeholders who emphasized collaboration and coordinated planning to tackle urban growth and improve livability across the FCT.
