The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has inaugurated the Karu Town Water Supply Project, aimed at providing clean water to satellite communities.

Wike stated that the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s promise made during the launch of the Greater Abuja Water Project in June. He recalled that a similar scheme was flagged off in Bwari yesterday and assured that other areas would follow.

According to him, Karu will receive treated water by June 2026, while projects in Kuje, Kwali, Gwagwalada, and Abaji are scheduled to begin between 2026 and 2027.

The FCDA Executive Secretary, Richard Dauda, explained that the project will cover Karu, Orozo, Jikwoyi, Kurudu, and nearby settlements through a 194km pipeline, with construction by CGC Nigeria Limited expected to be completed in 2026.

FCT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, described it as a life-changing intervention, while CGC’s Deputy Managing Director, Lui Hia Ming, assured quality delivery.

The project is expected to improve living conditions for thousands of residents and boost development in Abuja’s satellite towns.
