The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has yet to be declared open defecation-free, despite efforts by the FCT Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA).

Acting Director, Abigail P. Ekpenisi, said during a campaign in Nyanya that only 117 communities in Kwali Area Council have achieved the status, while no entire council in the FCT is free from the practice.

She stressed that open defecation poses health risks such as cholera and typhoid, urging residents to adopt proper toilet habits.

Officials also carried out market sensitization and inspected public toilets as part of the campaign, which supports Nigeria’s goal of ending open defecation by 2030.
