The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) on Monday, August 11, 2025, cleared shanties and roadside traders around UTC, Area 10, Garki, as part of its city sanitation drive.
Director of Development Control, Tpl. Muktar Galadima, said the exercise followed FCT Security Council orders to remove criminal hideouts. He noted that the UTC axis is a known hotspot and that part of the operation aimed to protect an undeveloped transit corridor in the Abuja Master Plan from encroachment.
Galadima stressed that occupants had prior notice, and only makeshift shelters used by hoodlums were removed, leaving park facilities intact. The cleared areas will be fenced and allocated for projects that align with Abuja’s urban development goals.
