First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu has donated 10 molecular diagnostic machines and fulfilled her ₦1 billion pledge to strengthen tuberculosis (TB) control in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The donation, unveiled in Abuja under her Renewed Hope Initiative, will prioritise underserved FCT communities for faster TB detection and treatment. Represented by Prof. Olufolake Abdulrazaq, she stressed the need for equal access to modern diagnostic tools.
The FCT records part of Nigeria’s over 100 daily TB cases and at least seven deaths nationwide. The solar-powered GeneXpert machines deliver results in under two hours, enabling early treatment and curbing spread.
Tinubu urged sustained funding and stakeholder collaboration, while Health Minister Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate and the Stop TB Partnership Nigeria hailed the intervention as a major boost to healthcare in rural and hard-to-reach FCT areas.
