Security Guard Rescued from Collapsed FCT Building Loses Leg

Mallam Aliyu, a 27-year-old security guard, had his leg amputated after being rescued from a collapsed three-storey building under construction on Sarah Ezekwe Street, Life Camp, near Kado Fish Market, FCT. He is currently in stable condition at Cedar Crest Hospital, Apo.

The building, which contained three residential blocks, partially collapsed on Saturday, August 2, 2025, trapping two people. One escaped, while Aliyu remained buried under the rubble.

The FCTA Director of Security reported the incident at 7:09 p.m. An eight-hour rescue effort by FEMD, NEMA, Fire Services, Police, Civil Defense, and Julius Berger led to his extraction by 4:05 a.m. Sunday.

FEMD Acting DG, Engr. Abdulrahman Mohammed, emphasized the need for qualified professionals in construction and warned against substandard materials, especially during the rainy season.
