Troops of the Nigerian Army foiled a kidnapping attempt early Wednesday morning and rescued a couple attacked by armed men near Zuma Rock, close to Abuja, in Niger State.
The incident occurred around 5:30 a.m. near Chachi Village in Tafa Local Government Area, an area that borders the Federal Capital Territory.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, who shared details on Thursday via X (formerly Twitter), the soldiers responded swiftly after hearing gunfire in the area.
On arriving at the scene, troops found a black 2008 Honda Accord with registration number KUR 395 AA abandoned in a ditch, its front doors riddled with bullets.
A firefight ensued, during which the troops rescued the vehicle’s occupants Samson Audu of Bakusa in Dei-Dei, Abuja, and his partner, Joy Bassy.
Audu sustained a gunshot wound to the right hand, while Bassy suffered a head injury. Both were rushed to Right Care Hospital in Dakwa, Abuja, and are said to be responding well to treatment.
