The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has accused Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) of failing to pay healthcare providers, despite receiving ₦4 billion meant for that purpose.

The delay has worsened the ongoing strike by health workers across all six FCT area councils. The workers are demanding the implementation of a seventy thousand naira minimum wage and settlement of overdue salaries.

Although funds were approved in April, providers say they are yet to receive payments. As a result, key services like antenatal care, immunizations, and treatments for malaria, HIV, and tuberculosis have been suspended.

Critics have also slammed the government for prioritizing large infrastructure projects while public health facilities remain shut. Residents and health sector stakeholders are urging immediate action to resolve the crisis and restore essential services.
