Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has called on Nigerian youths to shift from online complaints to real participation in building the nation.
Speaking in Abuja through Rep. Olamijuwonlo Alao-Akala at the launch of the Take Action Campaign by the Youth in Parliament Forum (YIPF), Abbas emphasized that with over 60% of the population made up of young people, their presence in leadership remains far too small.
He urged youths to engage meaningfully—monitoring policies, asking tough questions, and stepping into leadership roles—instead of sitting on the sidelines or relocating abroad, which he said doesn’t erase their Nigerian identity.
YIPF Director-General Tony Nwulu said the campaign aims to groom young Nigerians to run for office by 2027, with plans to build political structures in all states and promote voter education.
Backing the movement, Kogi Governor Ahmed Ododo and Imo Governor Hope Uzodimma, both represented, said it’s time to stop just talking about youth inclusion and start acting on it. Uzodimma noted that 40% of his cabinet is made up of young people and encouraged others to pull more youth into leadership.
