FG Sets 12 as Minimum Age for JSS1 Admission

The Federal Ministry of Education has announced a new policy that sets 12 years as the minimum age for entry into Junior Secondary School 1 (JSS1), following the successful completion of six years of primary education.

This directive, outlined in a newly released policy document, is part of broader efforts to standardize age-based progression across the country’s school system, particularly among private and independent schools. The policy aims to address irregularities in admission practices and ensure that all schools align with the National Policy on Education (NPE).

According to the Ministry, enforcing age-appropriate transitions will help improve learning outcomes, promote psychological readiness among learners, and bring greater uniformity to the education system nationwide.
