FCTA Extends School Term by 5 Weeks to Recover Lost Time
The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has extended the third term for public primary schools by five weeks, from July 28 to August 29, 2025, to make up for time lost during the recent three-month teachers’ strike.
A circular from Dr. Alhassan Sule, Executive Secretary of UBEB, instructed full compliance, with added daily learning periods for Primary 4 to 6.
The strike, which began on March 24 over unpaid wage arrears, was suspended on July 9 after FCT Minister Nyesom Wike secured N16 billion for salary payments.
While some doubt the extension’s impact, others view it as a necessary step to help pupils catch up and stabilize the academic calendar.
