A national summit aimed at drafting a new constitution for Nigeria kicked off today, July 15, in Abuja. Organized by The Patriots and the Nigerian Political Summit Group (NPSG), the three-day event is bringing together elder statesmen, legal experts, civil society leaders, and government officials.
Held at the Transcorp Hilltop Hotel, the summit seeks to replace the 1999 Constitution with a more inclusive and democratic framework. Key speakers include Prof. Wole Soyinka, Gen. T.Y. Danjuma, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, and Femi Falana (SAN).
The event was delayed by a day in honour of late former President Muhammadu Buhari and the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona. A draft bill from the summit will be presented to the Presidency and National Assembly for consideration.
