The Federal Capital Territory chapter of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has called off its strike action, which lasted for three months. The suspension takes effect from midnight, July 15, 2025.

This development was contained in an official statement issued on Monday, July 14, 2025, jointly signed by the union’s FCT President, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Kabi, and Secretary, Comrade Abdulmumini Sa’ad.

According to the release, the strike was suspended following the intervention of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Nyesom Wike, who directed that 10% of the Area Councils’ Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) be used to clear the backlog of three months’ unpaid salaries.

The decision to suspend the industrial action was reached during the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting of the union, held at the NULGE Secretariat in Gwagwalada, Abuja. The meeting also acknowledged appeals from the FCT Minister, the FCT Traditional Council, and several concerned stakeholders.

Key resolutions from the meeting include the formation of a special committee—initiated by the FCT Minister that will collaborate with NULGE to harmonize and resolve all pending financial obligations within two weeks. This process will involve the House Committee on FCT and other relevant channels.

The union also plans to engage directly with Area Council Chairmen to resolve remaining issues, particularly concerning the payment of the 40% Peculiar Allowance, salary adjustments under CONHESS, CONMESS, and CONPSS, and other pending entitlements.

NULGE pledged its commitment to maintaining industrial peace and ensuring harmony across all Area Councils in the FCT. It also appreciated the FCT Minister, the Traditional Council, and other stakeholders for their roles in reaching this resolution.

The union reaffirmed its dedication to constructive dialogue with Area Council leadership to address the outstanding demands of its members.
