Factional National Chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure, has sparked political reactions after meeting with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in Abuja.

The meeting, which was held at Wike’s residence on Sunday, comes as internal tensions continue to grow within the Labour Party following the formation of a new political coalition involving former presidential candidate Peter Obi.

Photos of the meeting appeared online and quickly drew criticism. Some Labour Party members accused Abure of aligning with people outside the party’s core principles. They say his visit to Wike, a well-known figure in the APC-led government, shows a shift in loyalty and raises doubts about his commitment to the party.

However, Abure’s supporters argue that the meeting was simply a strategic discussion ahead of the 2027 general elections and should not be misunderstood.

The Labour Party has been dealing with internal divisions recently, especially after Abure’s faction called for Obi to step down following his move to join the ADC-led coalition.

As preparations for the next election cycle begin, Abure’s meeting with Wike has added a new twist to the ongoing tensions within the Labour Party.
