With the 2026 Area Council elections approaching, indigenous youths in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are demanding stronger political, economic, and cultural inclusion.
At a town hall in Kwali, the Abuja Original Inhabitants Youths Empowerment Organisation (AOIYEO) said FCT natives remain marginalised despite being the original custodians of the capital.
AOIYEO’s Project Manager, Abubakar Ahmed, called the elections a chance for indigenes to assert their rights. President Isaac David decried land loss and political neglect, urging real representation.
Other speakers, including legal advocate James Ndeye and retired AIG Aminu Pai, called for constitutional reforms and collective action on insecurity. The group urged government agencies to implement policies that prioritise indigenous communities.
