Senator Ireti Kingibe says many residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are unhappy with the leadership style of Minister Nyesom Wike and are prepared to express their frustrations at the upcoming area council elections.

Speaking during a Channels Television interview on Monday, July 8, 2025, Kingibe said Wike has failed to address the real needs of the people, leading to growing dissatisfaction.

“The people of the FCT resent Wike. They’re disappointed by his attitude and inaction,” she said, describing the elections as an opportunity for residents to send a clear message.

Her comments follow growing complaints about neglect in rural parts of the FCT. In Chetta, Gaube Ward (Kuje Area Council), locals are reportedly depending on dirty water from an abandoned mining site due to the absence of clean water sources.

Civic tech group Monitng warned of health risks, particularly for women and children, and criticized the government’s repeated failure to deliver on promises.

For many in these communities, the upcoming elections are now seen as a chance to demand better governance and basic amenities.
