A journalist with The PUNCH, has expressed frustration after being robbed at gunpoint in Abuja and receiving no real help from the police.
The incident happened around 10pm near Dantata Bridge along Airport Road after his car broke down. While trying to buy fuel, hoodlums emerged from a nearby cashew plantation, smashed his car windows, and stole his bag containing a laptop, two mobile devices, and 250,000 naira contributed by colleagues for his late father’s burial.
Shockingly, the robbery took place just about 1,200 metres from a police checkpoint. When Adebayo reported it, officers told him they could do nothing and referred him to Galadimawa Police Station. He was later bounced between stations with no clear action taken.
Even after the intervention of the FCT Police PRO, Josephine Adeh, the case was only documented. Adebayo said an officer told him, “Our job is just to incident the case and give an extract.”
Still shaken, the journalist said he felt completely exposed and unprotected. The incident highlights growing concerns over safety and the slow response of law enforcement in Abuja.
