There was excitement across several FCT communities as Minister Nyesom Wike rounded off a 16-day commissioning of long-overdue road projects in the territory.

From Pai in Kwali to Kabusa-Ketti in AMAC, the War College Ushafa road in Bwari, and the Aguma–Radio Nigeria Market Road in Gwagwalada, residents and traders came out in large numbers to celebrate the long-awaited development.

In Gwagwalada, the newly rehabilitated market road drew huge crowds, with many describing it as a major boost for local businesses. For years, the road was in terrible condition, cutting off access to the popular Gwagwalada Main Market.

“I’ve lived in Jerry Estate and sold in this market for years. That road used to be a disaster customers had to park far away and walk or take bikes,” said Onyeka Asoanya, a trader. “But since Wike came in, everything changed. Sales have tripled. I’ve never seen him before, but I came just to thank him.”

Thomas Chika, Secretary of the market’s traders association, described the road as a lifeline: “This road kept the market in a coma for over seven years. In just seven months, Wike fixed it. He’s truly a ‘Talk and Do’ Minister.”

For Malomo Mojisola, Assistant Women Leader of the Southwest Group in the market, the transformation was deeply personal. “Rain used to destroy our businesses. Now, we can move freely and do better. In 20 years here, I’ve never seen a Minister come close until now.”

The road, which was flagged off in September 2024, was officially commissioned on July 4, 2025 a moment many in the community say marks a fresh start under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

For them, the road is more than just a project it’s a sign of better days.
