Teachers in the Federal Capital Territory have joined the growing wave of protests led by Nigerian students, demanding the immediate reopening of public schools in Abuja that have remained shut under the administration of FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.

The mass protest, which gained momentum this week, is in response to what demonstrators describe as the government’s neglect of the education sector in the FCT. Students, parents, and now teachers accuse the Wike-led FCT Administration of ignoring repeated calls to resolve the issues causing the prolonged closure.

Chanting slogans and holding placards, protesters marched through key parts of the capital, calling for urgent government action.

“This is no longer just about students. Our teachers are fed up too. Education is on life support in the FCT,” said one of the protesting student leaders.

FCT teachers say they are standing in solidarity with students, warning that the continued shutdown is harming the academic future of thousands of children.

As public pressure mounts, all eyes are now on the FCT Administration for a response to end the impasse and restore learning in the territory’s schools.
