The Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Department (FEMD) has announced the immediate closure of the Galadimawa slip road connecting Goodluck Jonathan Expressway to Ring Road II, citing serious flood threats posed by the ongoing rainy season.

The agency said the decision followed rising water levels at the Galadimawa Interchange, a location known for recurrent flooding during heavy rainfall. Officials confirmed that barricades have been mounted to restrict vehicular movement and prevent potential loss of lives.

According to FEMD, the closure is a proactive measure aimed at safeguarding commuters, especially in light of previous flood-related incidents along the route. Notably, in 2019, a senior official of the FCT High Court tragically lost their life after being swept away by floodwaters in the same area.

“We have blocked the road for safety reasons. The water level is dangerously high, and we don’t want a repeat of past tragedies,” an FEMD official said.

Motorists are advised to use alternative routes while the road remains closed. The agency has also urged residents to stay alert and report flood emergencies through the toll-free line 112.

FEMD assured that it is monitoring all flood-prone locations across Abuja and will reopen the road once it is deemed safe for public use.
