Workers under the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) are set to begin a three-day protest from Monday, June 30 to Wednesday, July 2, 2025, following what they describe as the continuous neglect of their welfare by the FCT Minister.
The planned protest was announced by the Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC), the umbrella body representing various staff unions within the FCTA. In a statement issued on Thursday, the JUAC President, Rifkatu Iortyer, said the protest would be held at the Minister’s main gate in Area 11, Garki, Abuja, from 7:00 am daily.
According to Iortyer, the protest is being organised in response to the “blatant refusal” of the FCT Minister to address critical staff-related issues that have lingered for months.
Among the grievances listed are the non-promotion of staff since 2023, unresolved salary discrepancies, unpaid entitlements, and continued deductions which the union describes as illegal.
Other demands include the domestication of the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS), accessibility of the salary portal for salary desk officers, release of overhead funds since December 2024, and payment of arrears of five months wage awards and health workers’ hazard allowance.
“The Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission must go. We say no to overseeing directors’ positions,” Iortyer declared.
The union also decried the absence of staff training and retraining, non-payment to the AEPB enforcement squad, and the growing number of out-of-school FCTA primary school pupils.
JUAC is urging all workers and affiliate unions to participate fully in the protest, describing it as necessary to compel the FCT Administration to act in the interest of its workforce.
