The Satellite Town Development Department (STDD) has launched a renewed phase of its Clean and Green Satellite Town Initiative, focusing on the evacuation and sanitation of drainage channels across several communities within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The exercise, which kicked off in June 2025, is being spearheaded by the Director of Environmental Services, Mr. Dauda Akun. Areas currently benefiting from the cleanup include Gwagwalada, Kuje, Abaji, Kwali, Onex, and Bwari.

Coordinator of the STDD, Hon. AbdulKadri Zulkiflu, stressed the importance of maintaining a clean environment, especially during the rainy season. He warned that indiscriminate dumping of waste in drainage systems can lead to serious health risks and flooding, posing dangers to all residents regardless of social class.
Hon. Zulkiflu urged residents in the six Area Councils to dispose of waste responsibly by packaging refuse properly and using designated collection points. He emphasized that the Barr. Nyesom Wike-led FCT Administration is committed to improving environmental health and sanitation in the satellite towns.
“Keeping our environment clean is a shared responsibility,” Zulkiflu said. “We call on all residents to join hands with the STDD to safeguard public health and prevent disease outbreaks.”
The ongoing clean-up operation, he added, is part of a broader plan to improve the quality of life and environmental standards across the Territory.
Mr. Akun, leading a team of environmental officers, reaffirmed the department’s resolve to maintain cleanliness and prevent the spread of diseases through proactive waste evacuation and drainage maintenance.
