FCT Minister Nyesom Wike announced plans to fully renovate the IBB International Golf and Country Club in Abuja during a Saturday visit to the facility.
The 30-year-old golf club, which closed temporarily in April due to internal disputes and renovation needs, will be restored to international standards. Julius Berger, the original builders from 1991, will handle the renovation work starting with the clubhouse.
“Julius Berger built it, so they can fix it faster and better,” Wike said, emphasizing the need to act quickly before further deterioration.
The Minister highlighted that improved public facilities attract tourists and investors, similar to the recently renovated Tinubu International Conference Centre. He also stressed the importance of paying taxes and ground rent to fund such projects.
Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, who leads the club’s new Board of Trustees, thanked the Minister for his support. The club has over 5,000 members and needs government assistance for equipment upgrades.
The renovation aims to restore the IBB Golf Club as a premier recreation and tourism destination in Nigeria.
