Tinubu Stranded as Flood Halts Convoy on Lafia-Makurdi Road

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s trip to Benue State was disrupted as his convoy got stranded due to severe flooding along the Lafia-Makurdi expressway.

The President, who was en route to the state for a working visit, encountered heavy gridlock near the flooded section of the road, where water overflowed its banks, cutting off vehicular movement.

Sources close to the convoy confirmed that the presidential motorcade has been held up for over an hour, with security agents and road marshals battling to manage the situation. “The water level is high, and several vehicles ahead are either turning back or stuck. The president is safe but unable to proceed,” a security source said.

Eyewitnesses along the route described the scene as chaotic, with travelers, transporters, and government officials stranded in long queues. Many blamed the lack of proper drainage infrastructure and years of neglect for the recurring floods.

“This happens every year. It’s just unfortunate the president is experiencing what ordinary Nigerians go through regularly,” said a local resident.

There has been no official word from the presidency yet on whether the trip will continue or be suspended due to the road conditions.

This incident underscores growing concerns over Nigeria’s poor road infrastructure and the urgent need to address environmental hazards affecting key transport corridors.
