With the FCTA’s 14-day ultimatum set to expire on June 16, property owners in Abuja are rushing to the Abuja Geographic Information Systems (AGIS) office to avoid revocation of their land titles over unpaid ground rents.

The FCTA published a list of 3,383 defaulters down from over 9,000 last year including major institutions such as the Nigerian Navy, Federal High Court, FIRS, and 34 foreign missions.

When Capital Mirror visited AGIS, long queues had formed as individuals and institutions raced to clear debts. FCTA officials confirmed increased compliance.

FCT Minister’s spokesperson, Lere Olayinka, said enforcement will begin immediately after the deadline. Security agencies like the Army and Police are also among defaulters, with debts totaling over ₦1 billion.

As the deadline looms, tension is high among defaulters hoping to avoid losing their properties.
