The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has launched an investigation and ordered the arrest of a woman accused of physically abusing and starving a 14-year-old girl identified as Bashariya.
The order came from the FCT Commissioner of Police, Adewale Ajao, following the circulation of a viral video in which the young girl tearfully recounted her ordeal in Hausa.
According to the video, Bashariya alleged that she was routinely beaten and denied food by the woman who reportedly took her in under the guise of caregiving.
Police authorities have confirmed that efforts are underway to apprehend the suspect and ensure justice is served. The Commissioner emphasized the Command’s zero-tolerance for child abuse and called on residents to report similar cases immediately.
The incident has sparked public outrage, with many Nigerians calling for stricter enforcement of child protection laws.
