Eid Traffic Gridlock Traps Travellers on Abuja-Kaduna Highway

Thousands of travelers were left stranded on Thursday, June 5, 2025, as a major traffic gridlock hit the Abuja-Kaduna Highway. The standstill occurred around the Bishini and Katari areas, just ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.

The congestion, caused by the surge in holiday travel, stretched for several kilometers. Many commuters were stuck for hours in the scorching heat, with both private and commercial vehicles trapped in the long queues.

Images circulating online showed vehicles at a complete halt, with frustrated passengers disembarking to seek shade or walk for assistance. The affected route, particularly between Jere and Katari, is known for heavy traffic during festive periods.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) later confirmed that the obstruction causing the delay had been cleared, easing movement for the affected motorists.

Authorities are urging travelers to remain patient and, where possible, consider alternative routes. Security and traffic agencies continue to monitor the situation to ensure safer and faster movement throughout the holiday season.
