The FCT Administration is ramping up efforts to improve reproductive health services to combat maternal and infant mortality, according to Health Services Mandate Secretary Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe.
Speaking at the quarterly Product Introduction and Market Coordination Mechanism (PIMCM) Committee meeting in Abuja, Dr. Fasawe emphasized that better awareness and reproductive health services are crucial for protecting women and children during pregnancy and childbirth.
The Clinton Health Access Initiative highlighted capacity building gaps as a major challenge in the territory’s reproductive health sector. In response, Dr. Fasawe called for strategies to strengthen the FCT healthcare workforce for better service delivery.
Dr. Olugbenga Bello, Acting Director General of FCT Hospitals Management Board, described reproductive health as a fundamental human right and urged the committee to address persistent stock-outs of family planning commodities in health facilities.
The PIMCM Committee, established in November 2024, provides leadership and coordination for reproductive health services across the FCT. Dr. Ruqqaya Wamako of the Primary Health Care Development Board noted its role in harmonizing product availability and ensuring efficient service delivery.
The committee reviewed findings from a Sexual, Reproductive, Maternal, and Newborn Health market survey and developed work plans for activities leading up to the next quarterly meeting in August 2025.
