Judicial activities were disrupted in Abuja on Friday as striking members of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) locked the gates of key courts, preventing judges, lawyers, and staff from entering.
The protest is part of a nationwide strike over delayed implementation of financial autonomy for the judiciary, a demand JUSUN says has been ignored for too long.
At several court complexes, including the Federal High Court and FCT High Court, union members blocked access early in the morning, forcing court sessions to be suspended.
Lawyers and litigants who arrived for scheduled hearings were turned away, while judges remained stranded outside their chambers.
JUSUN officials insisted the action would continue until the government meets their demands, emphasizing that the judiciary must be free from executive control.
As of the time of this report, no formal response had been issued by the federal authorities.
