The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has appealed to the National Assembly to step in and help resolve the ongoing strike by primary school teachers in Abuja.
The strike, caused by unpaid allowances and poor working conditions, has left many students out of school for months. Wike criticized the National Assembly’s committees responsible for FCT area councils, saying they have neglected their oversight duties.
He stressed that the strike is harming children’s education and warned that denying students access to learning threatens both society and democracy.
Wike assured that efforts are being made to settle the dispute and urged all parties involved to prioritize the education of FCT children. He expressed hope that the strike will end soon so students can return to class.
