Former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, has taken legal action to challenge the forfeiture of 753 housing units in the Lokogoma area of Abuja.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had secured a court order in December 2024 for the final forfeiture of the properties, alleging they were proceeds of corruption linked to Emefiele.

However, Emefiele, through his lawyer A.M. Kotoye, has appealed the decision, arguing that he was not properly informed about the case. He claims the EFCC published the notice in an obscure part of a newspaper, making it hard to find, especially while he was facing other court charges in Lagos and Abuja.

Emefiele also accused the EFCC of deliberately hiding the proceedings from him despite their ongoing legal engagements.

He insists he has legal rights to the properties and describes the court’s decision as unfair. The former CBN chief is asking the Appeal Court to overturn the ruling and stop the government from selling the houses until his case is heard.
