The 2025 WASSCE English Language exam has sparked outrage after students across Nigeria were forced to write the paper late into the night under poor conditions.

In some centres, especially in Ilorin and Lagos, the exam started as late as 7:00 p.m. and ended close to midnight. With power outages and security concerns, many students relied on flashlights and headlamps.

Social media users condemned the situation, citing delays, stress, and reports of students being asked to bring rechargeable lamps.

WAEC spokesperson Moyosola Adesina apologised, blaming the delays on strict security measures to prevent exam malpractice. She assured the public that better planning would be put in place to avoid a repeat.
