Shafa Energy, a subsidiary of AYM Shafa Holdings Limited, has launched its Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), initiative, Shafa CNG, marking a significant step toward sustainable and affordable energy in Nigeria.
The company unveiled plans to open its first CNG refueling station in Abuja, reinforcing national efforts to reduce energy costs and environmental impact.
Alhaji Yakubu A. Maishanu, Executive Chairman of AYM Shafa Holdings, described the move as “a major step forward in our commitment to sustainable energy solutions,” noting that it aligns with the federal government’s drive for cleaner and more affordable energy under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
“This initiative underscores our dedication to reducing environmental footprints while enhancing Nigerians’ quality of life,” Maishanu added.
The development follows the federal government’s removal of fuel subsidies in 2023, which fast-tracked the shift toward CNG as a more cost-effective alternative to petrol and diesel.
Since then, Nigeria has seen a rapid expansion of CNG infrastructure, with conversion centres increasing from seven to 193 and attracting $440 million in private sector investments.
Shafa CNG is aligned with the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (P-CNGi), which was launched in 2023 with the ambitious target of putting one million CNG-powered vehicles on Nigerian roads by 2027 and establishing 1,000 refueling and conversion stations nationwide.
Maishanu expressed confidence in the long-term benefits of the initiative, highlighting its potential to improve community well-being, boost economic activities, and protect the environment.
He pledged continued collaboration with industry partners and stakeholders to promote broader adoption of CNG as a reliable, efficient, and eco-friendly energy solution
