The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has pushed back against claims made by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), denying it owes ground rent spanning 25 years

.

Responding to the recent closure of its Zone 5 office in Abuja, FIRS maintained that all required payments have been made up to the year 2023, and it possesses documented evidence to support this.

The agency further disclosed that since February 19, 2024, it has been actively seeking an official acknowledgment or receipt from the FCTA, but has yet to receive any reply.

Describing the sealing of its premises as unwarranted, FIRS is calling on the FCTA to correct its payment records to reflect the accurate status.

This development surfaces amid an ongoing FCTA clampdown on defaulters, with thousands of property titles already slated for revocation due to unpaid ground rent.
