Wike Seals PDP National Secretariat Over Unpaid Ground Rent

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has ordered the sealing of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Secretariat in Abuja due to unpaid ground rent.

The move is part of a larger enforcement drive by the FCT Administration targeting 4,794 properties across Abuja. These properties, including the PDP secretariat located at Wadata Plaza, Zone 5, reportedly failed to pay ground rent for periods ranging from one year to over four decades.

In March 2025, the FCTA revoked the land titles of the affected properties and gave owners a 21-day grace period to settle their debts. With the deadline now passed, the administration has begun sealing off the properties.

Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications to the FCT Minister, confirmed the development, stating that the government is acting strictly within the law.

Chijioke Nwankwoeze, Director of Land Administration, explained that the title to the PDP secretariat is not registered in the party’s name but under an individual, Samaila Mamang Ofu. He noted that the enforcement action was therefore directed at the titleholder, not the political party.

The sealing comes just days before the PDP’s scheduled National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, raising questions about possible political motivations. However, FCT officials maintain that the action is strictly administrative and follows legal procedures.

Other institutions affected by the exercise include the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).
