The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has announced it will begin repossessing 4,794 properties across Abuja starting Monday, following the revocation of land titles due to over a decade of unpaid ground rent.

The properties, located in high-profile districts including Central Area, Garki, Wuse, Asokoro, Maitama, and Guzape, were stripped of their titles after the FCTA declared them in violation of the terms of their Rights of Occupancy.

The revocation notice was first issued on March 17, with a 21-day grace period given to defaulters to settle outstanding payments. With the deadline elapsed, the FCTA is moving to enforce full repossession.

Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, confirmed that the administration will begin sealing off the affected properties, restricting access as part of asserting ownership.

Meanwhile, Director of Lands, Chijioke Nwankwoeze, stated that the FCTA is reviewing responses received during the grace period, especially from owners who defaulted for less than 10 years. He added that final decisions on the fate of these properties will be made after repossession is complete.
