The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has allocated ₦137 billion for the development of satellite towns in the Federal Capital Territory as part of its 2025 statutory budget.
The budget, presented by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, to the House Committee on the FCT, reflects a strong push to bridge the infrastructure gap between the Abuja city center and surrounding communities. The ₦137 billion will go to the Satellite Towns Development Department (STDD) to improve basic amenities and infrastructure in key outlying areas.
The overall 2025 capital expenditure for the FCT stands at ₦1.29 trillion—an 11 percent increase from the ₦1.16 trillion allocated in 2024. Of this, ₦801.5 billion has been allocated to the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) for major infrastructure projects, while ₦351.2 billion is set aside for other secretariats and departments to execute their capital programs.
Some notable projects in the 2025 budget include:
- ₦80 billion for SUKUK-funded road projects
- ₦25 billion for the Abuja Light Rail Project
- ₦15 billion for the Abuja Greater Water Supply Project
- ₦250 billion in commercial loans to complete ongoing capital projects across the FCT
The transport sector is expected to benefit from ₦79.3 billion, with ₦52.3 billion allocated for capital development and ₦27 billion for recurrent expenditure.
Minister Wike emphasized that the administration is focused on completing existing projects and ensuring that all developments deliver tangible value to residents. Chairman of the House Committee on the FCT, Hon. Ibrahim Bomai, praised the detailed approach to the budget and pledged thorough legislative review to support its successful implementation.
The FCTA says the 2025 budget aims to drive inclusive development and economic growth across the capital city and its fast-growing satellite towns.
