The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), has announced a planned power outage across several parts of Abuja on Saturday, May 17, 2025, due to routine maintenance on one of its major transformers.
In a statement issued via its official X account, TCN said the maintenance work will take place between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on the 60MVA TR2 transformer at the Kukwaba Transmission Substation.
Areas to be affected include Wuye, Utako, parts of Jabi, Idu Railway Station, EFCC Headquarters, FMC, Baze University, Nile University, Coca-Cola premises, Citec, Idu Industrial Zone, Kuchigoro, and Karmajiji.
During the shutdown, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), will be unable to draw power from the transformer, leading to a seven-hour blackout in the listed areas.
TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, assured residents that electricity will be restored immediately after the maintenance is completed and appealed for public understanding as the company works to improve grid reliability.
