The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) has sealed 21 facilities in Abuja for breaching environmental laws.
The enforcement followed weeks of inspections that uncovered improper waste disposal, air and water pollution, and non-compliance with regulatory standards.
According to NESREA Director General, Dr. Innocent Barikor, the affected facilities span sectors including hospitality, manufacturing, and health. He stressed that the closures are part of efforts to protect public health and restore environmental integrity in the capital.
“We gave warnings and timelines for compliance, but many failed to act. This enforcement is necessary to send a clear message,” Barikor said.
He urged all businesses to prioritize environmental safety and warned that the agency will intensify monitoring and enforcement nationwide.
