The Federal Government has commissioned Nigeria’s first-ever smart police station, marking a significant step toward technology-driven law enforcement.

Located in the Katampe-Mpape area of Abuja, the new station was built by the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) and officially handed over to the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) on Wednesday.

Equipped with 24-hour CCTV surveillance, solar power supply, and perimeter security, the facility is designed to support modern, responsive, and efficient policing in the Federal Capital Territory.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Dr. Anuma Ogbonnaya Nnia, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Police Affairs, represented Minister Senator Ibrahim Gaidam. He described the project as a “milestone achievement” under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“This station reflects the administration’s focus on safety, reform, and technology-driven policing,” he said.

Mohammed Sheidu, Executive Secretary of the Police Trust Fund, commended President Tinubu’s support for modernizing law enforcement. He noted that the smart station sets a new benchmark for future police facilities in Nigeria.

Receiving the station on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, Assistant Inspector General Victor Olaiya urged officers to uphold high standards in maintaining the facility, calling it a “symbol of national progress.”

Also speaking at the event, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency, highlighted the importance of inter-agency collaboration. He described the project as a strong example of how infrastructure and security can align to serve public interest.

With its launch, the smart police station is expected to serve as a national model for future law enforcement development. Officials say more technology-enabled facilities are in the pipeline as part of ongoing efforts to improve safety, transparency, and public trust in policing.
