The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved a comprehensive Group Life Assurance policy valued at ₦9.6 billion for President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, federal ministers, and public servants across key government sectors.

The decision, reached during a recent FEC meeting presided over by President Tinubu, aims to provide financial security for top government officials, paramilitary officers, intelligence personnel, and civil servants in the event of death or permanent disability sustained while on duty.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, stated that the policy—managed by a consortium of 12 local insurance companies—represents the federal government’s commitment to the welfare and safety of its workforce.

“This is a routine annual policy meant to ensure that federal government workers, particularly those serving in high-risk areas, and their families are protected from the financial impact of unforeseen events,” Idris said.

The Group Life Assurance policy is part of the administration’s broader efforts to improve public service welfare and morale, particularly amid growing security and economic challenges across the country.

In addition to the insurance policy, the FEC also approved other critical projects, including the reconstruction of the Ojoo Interchange in Oyo State and bilateral agreements with the United Arab Emirates to eliminate double taxation and encourage investment.

The life insurance policy is expected to offer peace of mind and support to public servants and their families, reinforcing the government’s message that the contributions of its workers are valued and safeguarded.
