Abuja, Nigeria – Tension gripped parts of Abuja over the weekend as a pastor allegedly shot two police officers and fled the scene, prompting a manhunt by law enforcement authorities.
The incident reportedly occurred during a heated confrontation at the pastor’s residence, though details surrounding the motive remain unclear. According to eyewitnesses, the confrontation escalated quickly, ending in gunfire.
Police sources confirmed that the two officers, whose identities have not yet been released, sustained gunshot wounds and were rushed to a nearby hospital. Both are said to be receiving treatment and are in stable condition.
The pastor, whose name is being withheld pending further investigation, is currently on the run. Security agencies have launched a search operation to apprehend the suspect, with checkpoints mounted at key areas across the city.
FCT Police spokesperson confirmed the incident, stating: “We are actively investigating the case and pursuing all leads. Anyone with useful information on the suspect’s whereabouts is urged to contact the nearest police station.”
Residents have expressed shock over the incident, particularly as the suspect is known in the community for religious and social engagements.
Authorities have assured the public of their safety and urged calm while investigations continue.
