The Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC) has ordered the immediate demolition of more than ten unauthorized duplexes constructed on a designated green area in Wumba District, near Apo.
Council Coordinator, Felix Obuah, issued the directive after an inspection revealed that the structures were built without official approval or land allocation. Despite multiple stop-work notices, the developer allegedly continued construction in direct violation of the Abuja Master Plan.
Director of Development Control, Mukhtar Galadima, confirmed that none of the buildings had valid permits. He stated that both completed and ongoing projects will be demolished within 48 hours.
Officials from the Parks and Recreation Department and the Abuja Environmental Protection Board expressed concern over the environmental impact of encroaching on green spaces. They warned that such activities contribute to rising urban temperatures and increase the risk of flooding in the capital.
The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing the Abuja Master Plan and cracking down on illegal developments, particularly in environmentally sensitive zones
