Abuja, Nigeria – The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has recorded more than $1.34 million in currency declarations following the introduction of its Electronic Currency Declaration Form (e-CDF) at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
The e-CDF system, which was recently deployed during a pilot phase, is designed to improve transparency, efficiency, and compliance in the declaration of inbound and outbound currencies at Nigerian airports.
According to the NCS, a total of 69 currency declaration transactions were recorded during the period, with 50 of those being outbound declarations. The system now allows travelers to electronically declare foreign currency exceeding regulatory limits, replacing the previous manual process.
Customs authorities say the initiative is part of a broader push to modernize customs operations and align with international financial standards.
“This marks a significant step in using technology to improve revenue collection and ensure accountability,” a customs official noted.
The deployment of the e-CDF at Abuja Airport reflects the government’s commitment to digitizing services and improving border control and security.
Further rollout of the e-CDF system to other international airports in Nigeria is expected in the coming months.
